Fabian Wichmann is appointed Co-Leader of Thematic Panel on Ideologies and Conspiracy Narratives at EU Knowledge Hub on the Prevention of Radicalisation.
I am excited to share that I have been appointed as Co-Leader of the Thematic Panel on Ideologies and Conspiracy Narratives within the EU Knowledge Hub on the Prevention of Radicalisation, an important initiative of the European Commission. This appointment is a meaningful milestone for me personally, but more importantly, it strengthens the EU Knowledge Hub’s crucial role in fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among practitioners, policymakers, and academics in the field of radicalisation prevention.
EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation
The EU Knowledge Hub on Prevention of Radicalisation brings together practitioners, policymakers, and researchers working on prevention across Europe and in priority third countries. Its creation was outlined in the EU Counter-Terrorism Agenda 2020.
The Hub supports the development and implementation of policies and strategies based on shared knowledge and expertise. It fosters collaboration among stakeholders to address the challenges of radicalisation, emphasising an integrated, policy-driven approach and a whole-of-society perspective.
Panel: Ideologies and Conspiracy Narratives
This appointment builds directly on my more than four years of experience serving as Co-Chair of the RAN (Radicalisation Awareness Network) Working Group Communications & Narratives, where I worked closely with my valued colleague Ross Frenett. During that time, we focused on developing strategies to counter extremist messaging and improve communication efforts in P/CVE. We gained invaluable insights into best practices, policy development, and collaboration across diverse European contexts. I am excited to bring that knowledge into my new role and continue contributing to the prevention of radicalisation at the European level.
The Thematic Panel on Ideologies and Conspiracy Narrativesaims to explore and address the ideological factors that drive radicalisation, as well as the impact of conspiracy theories in fostering extremism. Thematic Panels serve as key platforms for experts to network, brainstorm, and consolidate knowledge around defined priority topics. Aligned with the EU’s Strategic Orientations, these panels run for the duration of the priorities‘ validity. Selected leaders, co-leaders, and participants engage in in-depth discussions throughout, ensuring consistency. Researchers may be invited to contribute on specific topics, and the outcomes are summarised in annual reports. Leaders may also report on their work to the Commission or the Network of Prevent Policy Makers.
Looking forward
In this role, I aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the narratives that fuel radicalisation and to foster stronger collaboration across EU member states. By connecting research, policy, and practice, I hope to develop sustainable solutions that promote social cohesion and prevent the spread of extremist ideologies.
As I take on this leadership role, I remain committed to creating positive, lasting change in the field of P/CVE. I look forward to working with an incredible network of experts and practitioners to develop innovative approaches and drive meaningful progress.
